This morning Agent could not connect with my 2 Gmail accounts.

I forgot about the app-specific password I created years ago and tried
changing the Google passwords to no avail.

Then I remembered needing the app-specific password but now have no clue what
they were and can't find them in my notes.

I followed the instructions on Google for creating new ones but that option
seems to have disappeared.

Suggestions please.

PLEASE!!!!

Agent is still connecting to my one Gmail account here.

According to Google, if you change your Google Account password then
Google will revoke your app passwords.

See the section "App passwords revoked after password change" on
this Google support page.
<https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/185833?hl=en#zippy=%2Capp-passwords-revoked-after-password-change>

If Google's "Two-Step Verification" is turned off then your
Google/Gmail app passwords will also stop working.

I strongly recommend using a password manager to save your passwords
securely. For example, Password Safe <https://pwsafe.org/>.

> I followed the instructions on Google for creating new ones but that option

The option to create a new app password is still there. I have just
checked now.

1. Google's "Two-Step Verification" *must* be enabled before you can
create an app password. If "Two-Step Verification" is not enabled,
you will *not* get the option to create an app password.

2. If "Two-Step Verification" is enabled, then follow the 6 steps in
this message to get to the place where you create an app password.

3. If you turn off "Two-Step Verification", Google nowadays will
revoke your app password.

Two-step verification is on and has been on for a couple of years

I get this far:

1. Log on to <https://myaccount.google.com/>
2. At the left, click on 'Security'
3. Under 'How you sign in to Google', click on '2-Step Verification'
4. Scroll down to 'App passwords'

There is no "App Passwords" available to click on.

A quote from this Google support page
<https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/185833>

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ QUOTE ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    If you’ve set up 2-Step Verification but can’t find the option to
    add an app password, it might be because:
     *  Your Google Account has 2-Step Verification set up only for
        security keys
        <https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/6103523>.
     *  You’re logged into a work, school, or another organization
        account.
     *  Your Google Account has Advanced Protection
        <https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/7539956>.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ QUOTE ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

If those cases do not apply, step 4 "Scroll down to 'App passwords'"
should look like this:
screen-shot: <http://img4.imagetitan.com/img.php?image=27_bkqt1j__app_passwords.png>

You don't click on "App Passwords". You click on the '>' to the right
of 'App passwords'

Perhaps. I can't find where and how to check or change anything

Can't find out how to turn it off. Even following Google's instructions the
pages don't display what I need to know. Been going around in circles all
day!

Understood. It's just that nothing I do will bring up the App passwords.
Nothing to click on.

I know I'm missing something obvious but when Agent wouldn't log in this
morning I panicked and probably made the situation worse. I am so frustrated
right now.

FWIW, my Android phone has been getting my emails without any change on my
part.

Does Outlook requre an app password?

As much as I hate it, I'm thinking of installing it in a backup computer if it
will work.

Thanks for trying!

No, Outlook supports Oauth mode.

I use a simple algorithm that generates a unique password for every
site or service using the site's or service's name as input. I store
the algorithm in safe place (my head) and don't tell it to any one.

Followup to my original post.

I futzed around for over a week trying to get this working, following Ralph's
instructions, and almost gave up. Kept getting the same non-results on
GMail's site. GMail's help directed me to pages that were no longer found and
the forums on this topic were all locked.

Then I had the thought to search old messages from a couple of years ago and
found a message which I'm sure was just parroting Ralph's instructions BUT
that message included a URL that took me to the page I was looking for. Had
new app-specific passwords and Agent was working again within five minutes.

My regret is that in my excitement I forgot to bookmark that message, poster
and URL. I know it wasn't Ralph but I'm sure the instructions were originally
his.

Thanks again to Ralph for his efforts and to the poster who provided the URL.
