Thunderbird 102.13.0 (32-bit) on Windows 10 Home 64-bit

Failed after a MS update with: "Unable to write email to mailbox".

Checked file system and privileges - all OK. Googling suggest mailbox
profile is corrupted, so delete it and make a new account from scratch.
Same problem.

T'bird downloads 17 messages then the error appears.

Review emails using webmail - match the oldest 17 messages with those
shown in T'bird - then delete 18th message.

T'bird now downloads remaining emails correctly.

So the problem was a corrupt email. I failed to note who it was from
but it may have been sales@travelwithfredolsen.co.uk or
discover@fredholidays.co.uk or fredcruises@fredholidays.co.uk.

I haven't seen this type of problem for over 20 years - it used to be
common in the days of POP3 and pre-2000 versions of Outlook. So is the
a known bug in T'bird which makes it susceptible to such issues?

TIA

I've never heard of anything like that. It's certainly
not a POP3 issue. That's just a protocol. I never stopped
using it. (I don't use a cellphone, so there's no reason
for me to leave email on the server.)

It might be informative to look at the source code on
the webmail. Though I don't know whether that will actually
show you the original email code or only a webpage version.

Another possibility: Do you enable HTML email? You
could try disabling that. Also disable javascript in the
config settings. (It should be disabled anyway, but isn't
by default.)

Aside from that I can think of 3 possible issues. One would
be a corrupted malware email. Another would be some kind
of restriction from Windows or AV that's blocking an email for
being suspcious but not telling you. The third would be changes
in file format. I've noticed that it's changed a lot in recent
years. There are lots of new things in headers. There are
HTML emails with no text version. It used to be that all
email was multi-part if there was an HTML version. A plain
text version was still required. But so many entities are paying
subcontractors these days and webmail has gone batty. I get
a newsletter from one organization where the text version is
junk text. In the most recent one, I saw a March 2023 newsletter
in plain text, while the HTML was a July newsletter! That's
in T-Bird.

It sounds as though you have at least one thing against the UK!
Me, I live in the UK, and I have one thing against it; it's not stopped
raining for the past month, and the week ahead's forecast is for more of
the same.
All this while southern Europe hits record high temperatures!

I also live in the UK, but I'd far rather have the rain than
temperatures of around 40C.

Yep the world sure is screwed up lately. In the US we have drought in the central, fires in the west and the east is
flooding. If we could just spread the wealth around things would be tip-top!

PS I like the UK, it's just the spam from the area that I get. Or at least spam with co.uk on the end. I'm not sure
that really means its a UK origin or not now a days. Almost anything can be bought to faked.

Any of the two things in excess cause crops to fail.

If "spam" has an identifiable domain, it is easier to filter, they are
probably "good chaps" trying to make business. The bad spam have forged
domains, or addresses that they throw away after one use, and they do a
lot of effort to make filtering hard.

You must be in a very unfortunate part of the UK. We've had quite a few
nice days here - east coast of Scotland - in the last month. We've also had
very heavy rain showers at times too.

Very rarely see any spam.
Spam filters work well in Hotmail & Gmail.
Those that get caught mainly seem to come from Italy.

It's been mostly good here in Devon but July has been below par.

I suspect Ed lives somewhere around the Wigan area (50 mile radius!)

My daughter emigrated to the UK in 2014 and lived in London for
several years before deciding to buy a row house in Brighton last
year.

As a result I now routinely look up London temperatures in our daily
paper (which lists weather for 30 or so non-North American cities).
It's typically about 5-10 C above us in Vancouver but usually rains at
the same time which is not nearly as often as the previous poster
claims.

I also have a cousin (native of wa.usa) who while in Europe met the
man of her dreams (a Portugese) and lives in Paris with hubby, dog +
cat and two sons (she's a commercial realtor) which is rather
remarkable for somebody who grew up about 70 miles north of Seattle
and not far south of the US/Canadian border. She says it's a little
warmer than her but not much.

(That was my one trip into the US since COVID - her mother's wake)
