I don't have a problem with personal-use software piracy. But when
you run a "crack" on Microsoft's operating system, you kind of defy
the concept of realizing that you're not the only intelligent being in
existence, because you expect M$ not to know the difference from a
legit purchase of their product.

They *know*. They *permit* you to pirate their work. But do you
trust them, in this arrangement? By using all legal software, my
Windows system was secure, not just from malware, not just from
network-based attack, but from its own software. I had an agreement,
with MS and other businesses, to use their products. I really feel I
got my money's worth, from my point of view, I wanted the experience I
had, and I paid the price for them. People said I was crazy to buy
the retail Windows license, but it's just funny, white liberal
computer geeks will cheap out on something like that because they can,
whereas a person like me actually sees Microsoft as a potential
partner, but the Win10/11 era has shown they are expecting obedience
in upgrading hardware very regularly.

That's not true. Almost no one, besides the truly impoverished, has
an issue with the price of WinDOS. Almost no one uses GNU/Linux
because it costs less.

I'm talking about normal desktop users, above. For companies that
build and operate large server farms, not paying for Windows is a
significant cost savings.

I know, man, it's these geeks who think they're cool by being cheap
toward M$, but still using Windows, buying the extra product keys from
third parties. I just could not do it that way, it's too weird, the
big companies never use these keys and then sell them off, to be
resold one at a time online? Certainly works, everyone's doing it so
to speak, but it's just chaos to me. What I got for two and a half
years of Win10/11 was worth the money I spent, just as it'll be worth
it if I'm blessed to be able to donate to Mint, Wine, GIMP, LO, or
another FOSS provider I use a lot.

People are just selling WinPro product keys for $20 or whatever.

As long as there is no cheating/stealing, there's nothing wrong with
seeking-out a bargain. Everyone likes a bargain.

>What I got for two and a half years of Win10/11 was worth the money I spent

Nothing wrong with thinking that full price is a fair deal, either.

I recently bought a Sony OLED TV from Best Buy, with the intention of
getting every last dollar out of them, should the price drop within
the next couple months. I quickly realized that the OLED wasn't doing
it for me (not bright enough), so I returned it and bought Sony's FALD
(full array LED) TV instead. They were so nice about taking-back the
first TV, I'm not going to bother about the price of the second one
(which was less than the first one, so money saved no matter what).

I can highly recommend the Sony X90L FALD TV's, BTW.

Ouch, I just now checked and it is $100 less than what I paid just few
weeks ago. But, like I said, I'm not going to get that $100 back from
them. I could, but I won't.

They're free to do it. It's just kind of self-righteous, how they act
like Microsoft uniquely deserves to lose a sale.

I agree price isn't always the most relevant thing in a purchase. Best
Buy has never sold me something at a bad price, maybe some better than
others, but never high. You're just trying to do the honorable thing
as a citizen, nothing bad about that.

It's honest.

You don't run the risk of paying for an activation ID and finding
that it doesn't work.

You don't have to worry about the software suddenly not working when
Microsoft pulls the plug on that particular batch of activation IDs.

You don't have to pay for four-year-old software when stacksocial
periodically runs specials on Office Pro 2021.

Rubbish! Usual price for Win11 is the best part of £200.

And the reason for avoiding the Windows upgrade include price, short
lifetime, microsoft dubious commercial tactics.
If you need to upgrade soon, seriously look at Linux and MacOS alternatives.

Bleeping Computer is a really good option, but for this kind of thing,
a well-known one is:

https://deal.kinguin.net/c/software

You'd have to search further to find more options.

The vast majority gets Winows pre-installed and costing *far* less
than £200. Upgrades to the next version have been free, for the past
decade or so, too.

Do you know anyone who uses Linux because it costs less?
