When I try to send, I get the catchpa without any images. I click on
"I'm not a robot", get a big tick, but nothing else.

Is this the same for all, or just me?

I wouldn't normally post via G2, but I just sent a test, it made me tick
the "I'm not a bot" box, gave me a green tick, no captcha images to
solve, just click continue ...

But why not use your E-S account?

Slightly related: I registered on an appliance forum yesterday and it
wouldn't accept my Facebook identity. it said the app was down and the
owner knew about it. I thought it might be the forum software but it
let me register with my Google identity. I didn't check if Facebook
seemed down to me.

(My washing machine burned out its belt but nothing seems frozen or
stuck.)

I didn't look at the OP's headers (which may or may not be meaningful), but
as one who is constantly on various VPNs, I've noticed that Google hates
VPN (which comes as no surprise to anyone here, I'm sure).

My point is that the OP might be coming in from a VPN, where Google might
be doublechecking more fervently than when you came in from a normal IP
address.

I've noticed of the years, for example, that some VPN IP addresses roil the
captcha monster more so than others, where some VPNs get the captcha
monster so upset it won't ever let you in - no matter how many you solve.

Also...

It could be what's in the cookies depending on how the OP posted his google
groups message. As a relevant example, I helped someone today over the
phone create a protonmail account - where she couldn't get the Tor Browser
to verify so we moved to Epic to do the Protonmail account creation.

Then she tried to make another account on Epic, but Protonmail wouldn't let
her. Huh? I instantly told her to wipe out her cookies and change the VPN
address (Epic has an easy to use pulldown for that), and then Protonmail
acted as it did before - but all we changed were cookies & the VPN address.

My point is Google is both insanely stupid and rather clever at the same
time, where my advice to the OP is to check his IP address & cookes (if
he's using a web browser).

Adjust the tensioner the next time.

Even when the load is not excessive, if you overdo it
on the idler wheel, that can be hard on the belt.

I bought a spare belt for the washer... 33 years ago.
Never used it. But I do stick a finger on the belt
when not running, just to see if everything is OK down there.
I doubt the replacement belt is any good now. Too old.

I also run the washer, with the front sheet metal piece
off the machine. It has been running like that for 20 years.
Why ? Paul likes to see the shizit rotating in there.
You can also stick a hand on the electric motor and
check for "overheat". And, if any tubing starts to leak
in there, then while you're down changing loads, you can spot
dribbles inside the machine.

Doing that is "less safe", if there is a major mechanical
failure when spin-drying. Part of the function of the
facade of the machine, is keeping bits and pieces inside
the machine, on a failure.

The machine cannot break down... because, it knows

As for GG and the Captcha, be aware that groups like
comp.lang.c are closed to posting via GG. You could
ticky the little box there, and no post is going anywhere
after that. It's blocked. Any where that the Thai Spam
has been sent, is a potential group for lockout. The
other groups should still be working.

Some servers, when a group is blocked, there's a web page
and a notation indicating the group status. AIOE used to
block groups occasionally. But this is Google of course...

I'm just trying to satisfy my curiosity.
I can read NGs there, but not post.
If nobody can post through GGs, then how do the floods of spam that I
read about as having come from there get posted?

It's just you, see my "from G2" post in uk.test yesterday, some G2
groups are un-writeable, but not many.

AIUI people can post through GG, but if it is a crossposted post, the
reply only gets sent to one group. I see that as a big liabilty. Some
people who are participating will never see the reply or replies to it.

Even the original poster won't see some replies unless he separately
monitors each group he had posted to.

I think I was good about that the last time.

I had tried to increase the tension on the old belt. It's very awkward
on this machine, rquiring a long pry to move the motor.

I believe I pressed on the belt and I could press it in a half-inch.
That seemed like the right amount.

I asked on an appliance forum that even had separate sections by makers,
including Sears/whirpool, but got to no answer. Other fora are not so
well organized. I should ask there anyhow because I will run out of
clothes eventually. I hate web forums. Usenet is so much better.
