Thought I'd ask if any here travel much so see differences in McDonalds
menus?

Here's some of them I've experienced.

In Hawaii, like much of Asia (far east), rice comes with breakfast
meals. In Japan, you also get a small 'fish' with a cap that comes off
and filled with shoyu (soy sauce).

In Hawaii, fish sandwiches are very popular.

In Japan, there are some unique foods like in addition to chicken
McNuggets, you have fish McNuggets. They have a condiment packet of
wasabi-mayo with them.

In areas with a high moslem concentration, the breakfast sausage is all
beef.

I don't know about now, but in 1987, escargot could be bought in
France, along with wine. In Germany, beer was available for purchase.
Aruba's McDonald's don't have any significant difference in the
menu compared to the US. I can't think of anything different. The
quarter ponder is called the quarter ponder.
If McDonald's in an option in San Miguel, El Salvador, I've never
seen it. But I don't explore the city too much.
I've seen them in other countries, but haven't bothered with
visiting.

Neat! I never got to Europe during my travels but saw a lot of Asia.
I lived outside of the continental USA for close to 11 years of my 26
years in the Navy. I mostly went 'native' in eating but now and again
I'd want a taste of 'home'. Back home to Virginia Beach since late
2007, I rarely eat fast food, but I do now and again.

In 2008, in Seoul, South Korea, the McDonald's were basically the
same as in the U.S. In 2018 we visited Tokyo, and the McDonald's is
vastly different. Lots more fish options. And, of course, a lot of
rice.

We will have one meal at a fast food restaurant that's available
at home. That's almost always McDonald's.

I don't recall McD in Korea but probably passed one. I din't bother
with them in Australia either.

I only did it when out for a long time.

Sasebo also had KFC! Apparently someone said it's Christmas USA
tradition and they took to it in Japan so now it's a Japanese Christmas
tradition.

Yeah, I've heard about KFC for Christmas. By now the Japanese
know it's not a thing here. They also know it's now their tradition.
Around these parts, KFCs are closed on Christmas day. Most, if
not all, Chinese buffets are open for business. The ones in NoHo
always appear busy.

Some reports say that Takeshi Okawara, who managed the country’s first
KFC and later became CEO of KFC Japan, falsely marketed fried chicken
as a traditional American Christmas food to drum up sales.

But according to KFC Japan, Okawara went to a Christmas party dressed
as Santa. When the kids loved it, he saw a business opportunity.

In 2020, the global KFC website published its own explainer, noting
that the original idea for the campaign came when a foreign customer
who visited KFC in Tokyo on Christmas day said, “I can’t get turkey in
Japan, so I have no choice but to celebrate Christmas with Kentucky
Fried Chicken”. The report says a team member on the brand’s Japan
sales team overheard the remark and used it as inspiration to launch
the first Christmas campaign.

Either is plausible. I didn't even look for turkey back in 2018,
but why wouldn't turkey be available, I wonder.

I suspect because it's native to North America, while chickens were
domesticated by the Austronesian peoples and didn't even get to Europe
until 100BC.

Not very sustainable with low egg production. The Japanese pretty much
go for sutainable high yield products. They like the flavor of it but
you have to see a regular Japanese oven to realize even getting a 6lb
Turkey in there is very difficult.

Good point. I learned today that the Japanese don't usually even have
what Americans consider to be an oven in their homes.
