1) She'd rather you do the work.
2) She'd rather you did the work.

Is there any difference in the meanings of those sentences?

I think I'd say that (1) is more forceful, less diplomatic - and more
American:

There can be...

"Your mother wants you to mow the lawn."
"But I'm busy fixing my computer."
"She'd rather you mow the lawn."

"I thought your mother asked you to mow the lawn."
"She did, but I was fixing my computer."
"She'd rather you mowed the lawn."

"Navi" tries some normal English sentences:
> 1) She'd rather you do the work.
> 2) She'd rather you did the work.
>
> Is there any difference in the meanings of those sentences?

1 suggests that it's not yet decided whether "you" will do it.
2 suggests that it is decided, or at least expected that "you"
will not do it.

That's my feeling, anyway.

Interesting. Despite that, 1 doesn't exist in my English.
