I wonder what ever happened to Dana Carvey. I thought he was funny.

Dana later confessed he never really understood Mike Meyer's Wayne's
World idea. "Aren't we just doing Bill and Ted?" he asked. And he's not
wrong.

I'm not sure which originated first. In the two Wikipedia pages, Bill
and Ted was based on a stand-up routine the two writers performed in
college. The movie script was from 1987; the film from 1989.

Mike Meyers created Wayne for a sketch on It's Only Rock & Roll, a
segment from 1987. It got on Saturday Night Live in 1988-89, at which
point Garth (Dana Carvey) was added to the skit.

Similar concept, same era, but it sure sounds like they were developed
independently.

This Wayne seems a bit more Canadian than the final product.

It's weird because I don't remember anyone actually talking like Bill,
Ted, Wayne, or Garth back then. Even after those movies came out, only a
few catchphrases caught on with the kids.
