Flaco, the Eurasian eagle-owl that escaped from the Central Park Zoo
last year has died as a result of striking a building.

Thanks. And yes, The Guardian has the news too.

Strangely enough the zoo blames the 'vandals' who liberated Flaco
for being responsible for his death through a flying accident
caused by a fault of his own.

They give the location as W 89th St,
which doesn't look particularly dangerous, at first sight,

I'm reminded of an SF disaster story. It might have been The Hammer of
God, or perhaps Lucifer's Hammer. (Both titles have been used, IIRC.) An
asteroid strike caused, among many other damages, a massive tidal wave.
Surfers waited off the coast of Los Angeles to ride the wave. One of
them stayed on the wave longer than anyone else, but was finally
splatted against a high-rise building.

And reused.
'The Hammer of God' started as a Father Brown detective story.

Very popular weapon amongst deities, I understand.
You would think they could use something a little more subtle, but given
the sort of people they tend to smite... maybe not.
