the case for the English language being badly pronounced French is explained.
I liked a comment in the comments section, mentioning that French is badly pronounced Latin!

One view of the Ukraine war is that it results from the Ukrainian language being badly pronounced Russian.
After from that, one may puzzle at the reason for the antagonism.

Looks like the little differences are more damaging than the big differences.

That could explain the historical bad relations between the English and the French after 1066. Or the violence between similar sects.

Dumas père had D'Artagnan say it long before Clemenceau, in 'Vingt ans
après' if memory serves¹. But then, the French are always trying to put
English down.

More and more English words are now appearing in French (top, parking,
tramway, smartphone, looser (loser)...), so French is increasingly
looking like badly pronounced English.

¹Gutenberg doesn't seem to be working properly, so I couldn't verify.

Maybe in Paris, the Dordogne, and areas more or less close to England,
but I never encounter any suggestion of that in Marseilles.

Until John Lackland lost it all a century and a half later.

King John was not a good man; he had his little ways.

Wasn't the situation more that that Normandy owned England for years
after 1066, rather than t'other way round?

To be consistent, if England owned Normandy after 1066, then for years
after 1603, Scotland owned England.

(Going farther back in time, of course, the Stuarts weren't Scottish,
having moved there from Lancashire...)

As King James of Scotland became (also) King of England, that is true.
But try convincing the Scots. They keep coming over here, nicking our
engineering jobs . . . .

"Too much entente and far too cordiale", says Lord Rawnsley in the
movie "Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines" (made in 1965,
set in 1910 or so).

They were doing quite well, until both the State and the Head of State
were decapitated with a single blow.
