"DES MOINES, Iowa ?
Leaders with the Satanic Temple of Iowa say their display inside the
Capitol building in Des Moines was damaged Thursday.

Earlier this month the group set up the display, which features a ram's
head covered with mirrors on a mannequin cloaked in red clothing, as a
symbol of their right to religious freedom, according to co-founder
Lucien Greaves.

Temple leaders intended to take down the display Friday morning.

They posted the following message to the group's Facebook page on
Thursday:

?This morning, we were informed by authorities that the Baphomet statue
in our holiday display was destroyed beyond repair. We are proud to
continue our holiday display for the next few days that we have been
allotted.

We ask that for safety, visitors travel together and use the 7 Tenets as
a reminder for empathy, in the knowledge that justice is being pursued
the correct way, through legal means.

Solve et Coagula! Happy Holidays! Hail Satan!?

The display has drawn scorn from Gov. Kim Reynolds, who called it
"absolutely objectionable" and Republican lawmakers, including one who
is pushing for a ban on satanic displays in state-owned property.

The Satanic Temple says it is a federally recognized non-theistic group,
that uses satanic symbols as a way to convey its message. Their website
says the group does not worship Satan or believe in the existence of
Satan."

"Some Iowa conservatives shout at the rotunda devil"

State Rep. Brad Sherman, R-Williamsburg, a pastor, called on the
governor to have the display removed, wants legislation prohibiting
satanic displays and will push for a bill making it legal to put the Ten
Commandments in the Capitol, all state buildings and public schools.

Sherman points to the preamble of Iowa?s constitution, which says ?We
the people of the state of Iowa, grateful to the Supreme Being the
blessings hitherto enjoyed, and depending on Him for a continuation of
those blessings ? ?

?It is a tortured and twisted interpretation of law that affords Satan,
who is universally understood to be the enemy of God, religious
expression equal to God in an institution of government that depends
upon God for continued blessings,? Sherman said in a newsletter to
constituents, arguing the display violates the state constitution and
offends God.

Another magaloon who doesn't believe in the First Amendment. No surprise
there. The loons think that freedom of speech only applies to expression
they believe in.

People showing up to pray and shout at the thing makes it an important
religious display. But, that isn't my favorite response to this display.
That comes from Ron Desaintless. He says #45 helped them.
