Graziella Magherini, who has died aged 96, was an Italian psychiatrist who identified and named the psychosomatic phenomenon known as Stendhal Syndrome, a disorder which brings on in patients palpitations and attacks of panic after being exposed to great works of art...She noted that viewing the works of Botticelli and Michelangelo could bring on hallucinations, rapid heartbeat, fainting or loss of identity
