Usually leveling up is arduous. My SpliceHack monk just started and
met a "half-illithid kobold" when leaving the second room as first
encounter. A single bare-handed hit sufficed to get from Xp:1/0 to
Xp:2/39. I searched the area where that monster came from for traps
that could have weakened him beforehand, but there were none. But I
also wondered about dlvl:1 monsters that provide so many experience
points (in addition to being so easily killable).
