Bulgaria witnessed a picturesque sky as it observed the Aurora Borealis,
commonly known as the northern lights, for the very first time in the
country's history.

The northern lights graced the skies across a broad expanse of Bulgaria.
Pictures and videos of the stunning display quickly went viral on social
media.

Consultant and strategist Velina Tchakarova posted the photos of Bulgarian
Aurora Borealis on social media site X. “Aurora borealis for the very
first time in Bulgaria. It could be seen in Ukraine, Hungary and Romania
too. People are posting mesmerising, almost apocalyptic pictures tonight,”
Tchakarova said in her X post.

The northern lights were seen in Bulgaria on Sunday evening. Residents in
Romania, Hungary Czech Republic and Ukraine also reported seeing a reddish
light that looked like a fire in the sky. There are also photos from
Poland and Slovakia. Dazzling green and red auroras were also witnessed in
the United Kingdom on Saturday night.

Why is it historic?

Bulgaria which lies in eastern Europe and shares borders with the Black
Sea and is about 1,000-1,500 northeast of Mediterranean Sea is a bit too
south for its citizens to spot Northern Lights, which commonly occur in
the planet’s polar regions.
