These questions were written to be asked in Toronto on 2023-05-08,
and should be interpreted accordingly.

On each question you may give up to two answers, but if you give
both a right answer and a wrong answer, there is a small penalty.
Please post all your answers in a single followup to the newsgroup,
based only on your own knowledge. (In your answer posting, quote
the questions and place your answer below each one.) I will reveal
the correct answers in about 3 days.

All questions were written by members of Bloor St. Irregulars and
are used here by permission, but have been reformatted and may have
been retyped and/or edited by me. For further information please
see my recent companion posting on "Questions from the Canadian
Inquisition (QFTCI*)".

* Game 1, Round 4 - History - Crimea

1. The first major city in Crimea was Chersonesus, colonised by
settlers from city-states in which modern-day country?

2. After the disintegration of the Mongol Empire, which "colorful"
remnant ruled Crimea and much of modern Russia from 1259 until
around 1500?

3. The <answer 2>'s 1347 siege of the Genoese port of Kaffa in the
Crimea is believed to be the starting point for which historical
event?

4. Which prince and alleged lover of Catherine the Great was
responsible for the "voluntary" annexation of Crimea in 1783?

5. Tennyson's poem "The Charge of the Light Brigade" describes
events during a major battle in the Crimean War. Name
*either* the battle or the commander of the Light Brigade.
Coincidentally, both names have entered modern English
vocabulary.

6. From October 1941 to July 1942, Sevastopol withstood a siege by
German forces. In May 1945, Stalin recognised their bravery by
granting Sevastopol which honorary title, shared with Leningrad,
Odessa, and Stalingrad? (Answer in English.)

7. Concerned about the loyalty of a certain group of mainly Muslim
inhabitants of Crimea, in 1944 Stalin had roughly 200,000 of
them deported to Central Asia. They were only permitted to
return in the 1980s. Which group?

8. In February 1945 Stalin, Roosevelt, and Churchill met at which
Crimean resort to plan the future of Europe?

9. In 1954 ownership of Crimea was transferred from the Russian SFSR
to the Ukrainian SSR by which Soviet leader?

10. The 2014 Russian annexation of Crimea was facilitated by which
mysterious masked forces, referred to by Russian state media as
"polite people"? What are they better known as?

* Game 1, Round 6 - Miscellaneous - Car Models

We name three car models, past or current; you name the
maker -- or the specific division if applicable -- that
makes/made all of them.

1. Maverick, Edsel, Crown Victoria.
2. Malibu, Impala, Camero.
3. Odyssey, Fit, Passport.
4. Pony, Sonata, Santa Fe.
5. Park Avenue, Riviera, LeSabre.
6. PT Cruiser, Imperial, 300.
7. Micra, Titan, Leaf.
8. Impreza, Outback, Forester.
9. Jetta, Scirocco, Passat.
10. Supra, Prius, Tundra.

After completing the round, please decode the rot13: Vs lbh fnvq
