These questions were written to be asked in Toronto on 2023-06-12,
and should be interpreted accordingly.

On each question you may give up to two answers, but if you give
both a right answer and a wrong answer, there is a small penalty.
Please post all your answers in a single followup to the newsgroup,
based only on your own knowledge. (In your answer posting, quote
the questions and place your answer below each one.) I will reveal
the correct answers in about 3 days.

All questions were written by members of Bloor St. Irregulars and
are used here by permission, but have been reformatted and may
have been retyped and/or edited by me. For further information
please see my 2023-05-24 companion posting on "Questions from the
Canadian Inquisition (QFTCI*)".

* Game 5, Round 7 - Food And Drink - "American" Foods

Looking to take a road trip down south this summer? Why not grab
some iconic eats while you're at it? Answer these questions about
foods named after places in the United States.

1. Mustard, onion, tomato, a dill pickle, tomato, hot peppers,
bright green relish, and a dash of celery salt -- *but not
ketchup* -- go on a hot dog named for which third-most-populous
US city?

2. Name this sushi roll that is inverted with rice on the outside
like a California roll, but is filled with cucumber, smoked
salmon, and cream cheese.

3. A focaccia-like crust with crispy cheese along the edge
characterizes *which city*'s style of pizza? The pizza's
traditional preparation in drip pans used for oil changes
gives it a distinctive shape.

4. A cayenne pepper, butter, and vinegar hot sauce was created
at the Anchor Bar to create an innovative twist to a pub staple.
In which city would you find the original Anchor Bar?

5. Despite contenders like Pepper X, which pepper bred by Ed Currie
in 2017 currently holds the Guinness world record for hottest
pepper in the world? Its two-word name includes a nod to the
state that's home to Currie's Puckerbutt Farm.

6. Scottish businessman David Jacks popularized a cheese originally
made by Friars in which California city? A variation of that
cheese is named for the addition of chili and bell peppers.

7. Next time you're in this state, you might try a Hot Brown,
a turkey, ham, and cheese sandwich. If you hate your body,
you might then "double down" and visit a fast-food chain founded
in this state's city of Corbin.

8. Cayenne pepper gives a characteristic bright red color to
the Hot Chicken, a dish created by the Prince family in, and
sometimes named for, which southern city?

9. Celery, walnuts, apples, and grapes appear in a salad named for
which business? Give the full, hyphenated name of that business
that was demolished in 1929 to build the Empire State Building.

10. The Fig Newton is named not for a physicist, but for a city
in which state? This state's largest city appears in the
slightly misleading name of a custard-filled cake topped with
chocolate.

* Game 5, Round 8 - Literature - Biographies

We'll provide you the title of a famous person's biography or
autobiography, and you provide us the name of the famous person.

1. Name the writer of the 1975 autobiography "I Am Not Spock"
and its 1995 follow-up "I Am Spock".

2. Name the standup comic and late-night talk-show host whose 1996
autobiography is titled "Leading With My Chin".

3. Provide the stage name of the rock-and-roller, born Chaim Witz,
whose 2002 Autobiography was titled "Kiss and Make-Up"

4. Name the author of the 2023 autobiography "Spare", whose title
makes reference to a nickname that was bestowed upon the author
from the moment of his birth.

5. Name the former lawyer, prisoner, Nobel Peace Prize winner,
and world leader whose 1994 autobiography is titled "Long Walk
to Freedom".

6. Name the talk-show host whose 2016 autobiography "Born a Crime"
was named for the fact that he had been born to mixed-race
parents

7. Name the US-born theoretical physicist who is the subject of
the 2005 biography "American Prometheus".

8. Name the pop star whose 2007 autobiography "Out of Sync"
detailed his struggles with being a gay man while also being
in one of the world's biggest bands

9. Provide the name of the WWE star whose 2013 autobiography is
titled "The Stone Cold Truth".

10. Name the author of the 2009 autobiography "Getting it Through
my Thick Skull", which discusses her recovery from a 1992 attack
by the Long Island Lolita, and her eventual decision to finally
leave her dirtbag sociopathic ex-husband
