These questions were written to be asked in Toronto on 2013-04-15,
and should be interpreted accordingly. All questions were written
by members of the Night Owls, but have been reformatted and may
have been retyped and/or edited by me. I will reveal the correct
answers in about 3 days.

For further information, including an explanation of the """
notation that may appear in these rounds, see my 2022-09-09
companion posting on "Reposted Questions from the Canadian
Inquisition (RQFTCI*)".

* Game 10, Round 1 - Current Events (excerpt)

Answer these 2013 questions if you like for fun, but for no points.

1. Two Canadians and two Americans had to be rescued as their craft
was capsized by a rogue wave, about 600 km (400 miles) north of
Puerto Rico. What feat were the four men trying to accomplish,
before disaster struck? Be sufficiently specific.

2. He was a master of improvisational comedy, famous for his
many voices, facial expressions, and characters; the most
famous of which, was Maude Frickert. He played Mork's son on
the final season of "Mork and Mindy". Who was this comedian,
who died last week at age 87?

* Game 10, Round 2 - Entertainment - What's in a Name?

This round is about entertainers with stage names. We will
give you their original name and you provide their stage name.
Even if they are also known by their original name, we will *not*
accept that as an answer.

1. Paul Hewson.
2. Frances Gumm.
3. Gordon Sumner.
4. Dwayne Johnson.
5. Sean John Combs.
6. Albert Einstein.
7. Robert Zimmerman.
8. Allen Konigsberg.
9. Barry Alan Pincus.
10. Maurice Micklewhite.

* Game 10, Round 3 - Geography - Provinces and Regions

We'll give you the name of a province or region of a country,
and you name the country. Names may be anglicized. Answers do
not repeat.

1. Fars.
2. Hesse.
3. Styria.
4. Gujarat.
5. Liguria.
6. Helmand.
7. Katanga.
8. Putumayo.
9. Mato Grosso.
10. Galicia. (Not the historic region in eastern Europe, the other one.)

Row across the Atlantic Ocean (from Dakar to Miami). Stephen got
this.

Due to a typo, in the original game the question read "600 kg
north of...". Now that's heavy!

Jonathan Winters. Dan Blum, Pete, Stephen, and Joshua got this.

This was the second-easiest round in the original game, after
current events.

Woody Allen. 4 for Dan Blum, Stephen, Joshua, Dan Tilque, and Jason.

Alan King was a good try -- his real name was Irwin Alan Kniberg.

Barry Manilow. 4 for Stephen and Joshua.

> 10. Maurice Micklewhite.

Michael Caine. 4 for Dan Blum, Stephen, Joshua, and Jason.

Cary Grant was really Archie Leach. You may (no, I mean you should)
remember that that was the name of co-author John Cleese's character
in "A Fish Called Wanda" (1988); this was Cleese's homage to Grant.

Afghanistan. 4 for Erland, Dan Blum, Pete, and Stephen.

Democratic Republic of the Congo. "Congo" was sufficient.
4 for Erland, Pete, Stephen, and Joshua.

> 8. Putumayo.

Colombia was the expected answer, but apparently there are districts
called Putumayo in Peru and Ecuador as well. Those are smaller
than provinces, but "region" is not exactly a precisely defined
term, so all three answers were acceptable -- not that it mattered.
4 for Stephen.

> 9. Mato Grosso.

Brazil. 4 for Erland, Dan Blum, Stephen, Joshua, and Dan Tilque.

> 10. Galicia. (Not the historic region in eastern Europe, the other one.)

Spain. 4 for Erland, Dan Blum, Stephen, Joshua, and Dan Tilque.
3 for Pete.

The other Galicia extends east-west across the Poland/Ukraine border.

Scores, if there are no errors:

Also in Slovenia, where the name is Stajerska. Wikipedia refers to it
as a "traditional region", which suggests that it is not administrative.
Then again, the preamble to the quiz did not make any such requirement.

If anyone wonders where I got Greece from, my defence is that I know
the region by its German name, so Styria was alien to me.
