Anyway, if you go over to their website they have forums and information regarding participation. They've been using DNA and genealogy records(records of birth, marriage, immigration, census, etc. ) to look at who migrated where and who's related to whom. They were actually able to fill in the rest of the puzzle pieces for me once I found which group my blood relatives belong to: https://clanmorrison.net/ They have been able to confirm Norse heritage for some of us but I wouldn't take that to mean decended from the deligitimized son of a historical figure. (I'll change my mind if they manage to prove it via DNA from his remains. I just doubt there are any remains to do that with.) I mean, the other side's "history" (Donnachaidh) reads like an episode of GOT too... which makes me suspect they all exaggerate. Now, I don't doubt that someone named Gille Mhoire is the origin of the clan name, just that he had anything to do with a king.

My surname is Gilmore, of Irish ancestory, (from Grey abbey, the Ards Peninsula, ). I live in New Zealand. My Great or Great Great Grandfather came here in the 1800's along with his brothers and a sister and settled in Tauranga and Te Puke in the Bay of Plenty in the North Island, where I grew up. One of the brothers is buried in the settlers cemetery. The family is originally Scottish from the Clan Morrison. (I've researched all this by the way).. The coat of arms has an upraised dagger with the legend 'Dun Eistein'. Our family story, and my research, says I'm descended from a scandinavian king who, along with his wife and son was exiled from their country. The sons name was Gilmore, in their idiom. They were wrecked off the top of Scotland and came ashore, The son married the local Chieftains daughter and the Clan Gilmore, (MacGillemhoire) was born. Later the Morrisons married into the Clan and it became the Clan Morrison. I understand this happened around the tenth century. One note of interest, I have a problem with the tendon contracting
in one of my fingers on the left hand. It's called a Dupuytren and is only found in people of northern european descent.

Gilmore is not a name in a Scandinavian idiom. Most Gil- names in the British Isles derive from the Celtic element 'Gille' - servant, or alternatively, boy.

Too early. There were no documented clans in the 10th century, nor were their families bearing patronymic surnames at that time, so there was no such thing as 'Morrisons'. Likewise, the name Maurice that gave rise to the first Morrison is a name not to be found in 10th-century Scotland. I would look for it no sooner than the Anglo-Norman settlement under David I (12th century).
