A well-known line of descent in New England goes from Archbishop Edmund Grindall's sister who married John Woodhall of Saffron Walden, Essex (formerly of Ullock, co. Cumberland), through their daughter Isabel Woodhall, wife of the Rev. William Wilson, Canon of Windsor, and through their children, Rev. John Wilson and Mary (Wilson) Sheafe, wife of the Rev. Thomas Sheafe. Rev. John Wilson went to New England, as did his niece, Dorothy Sheafe, daughter of Thomas and Mary, and wife of the Rev. Henry Whitfield.

The Visitation of Essex, under "Miscellaneous Essex Pedigrees," has a Woodhall offering, including the John who moved down to Saffron Walden from Ullock.

https://www.google.com/books/edition/The_visitations_of_Essex_by_Hawley_1552/8vsUAAAAQAAJ?hl=en&gbpv=1&bsq=warner

His mother is shown as "Jennett, d. of ... Crakeplace." In an earlier thread, Chris Dickinson wrote, "Given that Elizabeth [Woodhall]'s marriage to John Woodhall is in St Bees in 1542, and the Crakeplace connection, the presumption must be that the Woodhalls of Ullock are your family." (As noted, the pedigree among "Miscellaneous Essex pedigrees" confirms the connection to Ullock).

https://groups.google.com/g/soc.genealogy.medieval/c/5Iuuqs4sA90/m/HmxLZwjDYDAJ?hl=en

Chris extracted some parish register entries from nearby Dean for these Woodhalls, including multiple Johns and Williams, as well as ...

Oswald Woodal = 10 May 1559, Dean = Margaret PAYLL
Oswald Wooddall = 2 Jun 1579 Dean = Mary SALKELD

The Cumberland Visitation of 1615 may give a slight clue to the Crakeplace connection, as in its Williamson pedigree it shows John Williamson of Newhall, Cumberland, who married (1) Alice Salkeld, and had a daughter, among others, "Issabell [Williamson] ux. Oswold Crakplace of Crakplace Hall in Com' Comb'land."

Odd, I was just looking at this family earlier this week; what a strange coincidence. There are not a lot of Crakeplaces to account for here; I started to go down a rabbit hole for John Crakeplace of Ullock who is of the right generation to be a father of Janet, and seems to have left some mentions, but haven't gotton too far yet...

A survey of 1578 mentions the "heirs of Oswald Crakeplace" holding a fourth of Ullock ...

https://www.google.com/books/edition/The_History_and_Topography_of_the_Counti/ZkJCAQAAMAAJ?hl=en&gbpv=1&dq=heirs+oswald+crakeplace&pg=PA354&printsec=frontcover

This chart shows an Oswald Crakeplace, died 1558, as the nephew of Jennett / Janet (Crakeplace) Woodhall. However, Janet is also shown with a son called Oswald Woodhall which may mean there was an older Oswald Crakeplace (I wouldn't necessarily think Janet would name a child after a mere NEPHEW).

Yes, You would think John Crakeplace here is more likely to be the father of Janet and Oswald, and Janet's son was named after her brother. Janet would have been born c1490s presumably..

The Woodhall pedigree doesn't have many chronological pegs but the baptisms of Marie and Penelope, daughters of Edmond /Woodhall/ of Walden, co Essex and his wife Margaret /Law/ were baptised

Marie /Woodhall/ 7 Jun 1612 Stoke Newington, London (wj)
Penelope /Woodhall/ 22 Jun 1613 Stoke Newington, London (wj)

Penelope has a marriage license 28 Apr 1629, she 16, he 22 to
John /Gibson/ of York; esq

In an earlier thread, Chris Dickinson wrote, "Given that Elizabeth [Woodhall]'s marriage to John Woodhall is in St Bees in 1542, and the Crakeplace connection, the presumption must be that the Woodhalls of Ullock are your family." (As noted, the pedigree among "Miscellaneous Essex pedigrees" confirms the connection to Ullock).

Oswold Crakplace of Crakplace Hall in Com' Comb'land."

Thanks for the mention. My post on the W, family is here (for anyone who is interested):

Crakeplace is another matter. I've never got very far on that family, and may even on an old Rootsweb forum have been misleading.

I don't do any genealogy nowadays, so probably can't help any further.
