Greetings,

Has anyway obtain a full translation of the Clememce Swynerton IPM since the last discussion on the topic in 2017? Has anybody come up with a meaningful clue as to Clemence's maiden surname?

Based upon the two back-to-back summaries of the IPMs for John Swynerton and Clememce Swynerton that were conducted on June 18, 1431 https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=umn.31951d023447228&seq=299 as well as John Swynerton's IPM in 1427 https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=umn.31951d01281795n&seq=629 , the John Swynerton Proof of Age IPM in 1429 https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=umn.31951d023447228&seq=272 , The IPM setting aside the dower of Clememce Swynerton in 1427 https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=umn.31951d01281795n&seq=751 , and the account of the Swyn(n)erton family In the "Collections For A History of Staffordshire", edited by The William Salt Archaeological Society, Vol. 7 (1886) https://archive.org/details/collectionsforhi07staf/page/91/mode/1up?view=theater (that mentions these IPOs and purports to give an English translations of much of their content), it appears that the John Swynerton who died in 1427 was the wife of Clememce; his IPM determines that his next heir is a "kinsman" (grrandson) John Swynerton, age 20. Although his IPM does not mention his wife Clememce, the later IPM in 1427 setting aside Clemence's dower interest ties the two together as husband and wife. John and Clemence Swynerton eldest son was John Swynerton who married Elena Malory, but he died before his father, never inheriting anything from his father (I cannot find an IPM for him; the Swynerton article suggests he died about 1409). Before the death of John Swynerton circa 1409, he and Elena had a son John Swynerton, who was the heir mentioned in John Swynerton, the elder's 1427 IPM. John Swynerton, the youngest (Clemence's grandson) died on September 28, 1430 (before Clemence), leaving John Swynerton, the younger (died circa 1409) without issue surviving him. In John Swynerton, the youngest's,1431 IPM it was found that his "kin and next heir" was his father's brother, Thomas Swynerton of Hilton, the 2nd son of John Swynerton, the elder, and Clemence, who was age 30 or more. Then Clemence Swynerton died on October 4, 1430, and Thomas Swynerton, son of John Swynerton, senior and Clemence, age 30, was her next heir.

Unfortunately, the Swynerton article cited does not suggest any maiden surname for Clemence. Given the purported translation of the IPOs mentioned in that article, it is unlikely that the IPOs give a meaningful clue as to her maiden surname.
