For Stewart Baldwin -- as you can imagine, I and others were delighted to see your LLywelyn ap Iorwerth ancestor table, but have gotten savvy enough on early Welsh genealogy to not be surprised to hear you've had some second thoughts about it.
In the genealogy's Generation 13, ahnentafel #4097, you have Esyllt ferch Cynan, saying "the best and earlies sources give her as the mother of Merfyn Frych..." Kari Maund's book on the Welsh Kings observes that " the connexionvia Essyllt ferch Cynan must at bgest be regarded as a tradition, and may be simple fiction."

What is the current state of the art in thinking about Essylt? Can one assert that she never existed, or possibly existed, or probably existed, or even actually existed and had the claimed relationships? Would you revise the ancestor table with respect to her if you were re-doing it?
