When I logged in i got a message saying that from feb 15 or 24 [there were 2 dates],
google were going to stop allowing users to post from google groups. They were probably
going to stop doing this at some point anyway but this 'spam' attack has likely forced
this decision earlier. Clearly they did not think it was worth the resources to fight it
off, or maybe they couldnt. So another nail in usenet coffin.

Usenet still exists. As the Google announcement says (I've posted a
message with a link to the announcement), if you view the group via GG,
get another Usenet client and sign up with a Usenet provider.

It may well see the end of the spam. It doesn't see the end of
newsgroups. If it does see the end of spam it's a move to the good in
that respect. The downside is that we lose the continuation of the
archive that Deja News started.

I and I suspect most access the newsgroup via Google Groups. I for one am not going to use another Usenet client. This newsgroup already suffers from a lack of critical mass because of decline in user participation over the years.

Why not? It's perfectly easy. If you use Thunderbird, Sylpheed or
Claws you can combine it with email and RSS feeds if you use those.

This has always been my approach. I use Seamonkey rather then
Thunderbird (same core code, different UI plus a browser) so the usenet
is just another hierarchy on the side-panel along with four email
services and the RSS aggregator.

If you go it will lose even more critical mass.

Ian.

I use Google Chrome. Usenet is an outdated system. From my perspective, there is no point in continuing

Despite the problems that Google has with Usenet, I am looking for information, especially any documentation that confirms the lineage, on Majorie MABER, born abt 1550 in Dorset, England and reportedly died 1623 in Beaminster, Dorset, England. She was the daughter of Henry MABER apparently from Maiden Newton, Dorset (1530-1598) and his wife Margaret Wyndham (1530-1578) from Dorset, who was the daughter of Sir Edmund John Wyndham, Knight (b. 1499 in Felbrigg, Norfolk, England and died 1573 in Orchard Wyndham, Somerset, England) and his wife Lady Elizabeth Sydenham (b. 1506 in Somerset, d. 1571 in Orchard Wyndham, Somerset).

Thanks in advance.

Bruce
