I've come across this.
https://support.google.com/groups/answer/11036538?hl=en

Hopefully this means the end of newsgroup spam. It also means that the
ongoing archive that Deja News started will cease to grow. How long
Google keeps the old content there is anybody's guess.

I wonder if someone else - archive .org maybe - will step forward to
fill the gap.

Ian

As I've posted previously, there is narkive.com which includes
https://soc.genealogy.britain.narkive.com
You can use the web site search e.g. site://narkive.com "ian goddard"
or the Advanced search option in many search engines

And to be clear, narkive.com also seems to archive soc.genealogy.medieval -- just go to https://soc.genealogy.medieval.narkive.com. Its archive seems to go back twenty years and it appears to be up-to-date.

This would seem to be a solution for those of us who generally don't use Google Groups to post to SGM (this post being an exception), but who want a place where we can search up older posts.

Trouble is narkive seems also to be unable to filter all the so called spam out of its
system. But if those behind the spam bots wanted to discourage use of usenet through
google groups or other servers, they have achieved their goal.
