No issues for me on one of our PCs. The other PC has a processor that is not supported in W11, so it can't be upgraded. The 11 interface is just slightly different and will take a minute to get used to, but it does run slightly faster than 10.

You can check in Settings under Updates and Security to see if your PC is capable of running 11. If you're happy with your PC now, there's not much of a reason to upgrade, however. If it's just seemingly running slower than it used to, upgrading to 11 won't fix that. It's all the junk that accumulates over time that slows it down. The upgrade keeps that junk.

I recently bought a Lenovo laptop at a bargain price that had Win11 pre-installed. The user interface has changed so there's a bit of a learning curve, but nothing too severe in my opinion. The only real issue so far is that the WiFi adapter refuses to connect to my Century Link fiber optic hotspot, aka Quantum Fiber. All of our other computers, mostly Win7, connect OK as does the Samsung smart TV and all of our cell phones. Customer service and Google searches have not so far yielded a solution. It connects OK to my 5G hotspot and also to my cell phone hotspot so it's not a huge problem, just annoying. I suspect it is some sort of driver issue but haven't yet been able to nail it down.

Make sure it's not locked down to using a mode of WiFi that your router doesn't support. There have been advances in WiFi protocols that the fiber router may not support.

Interesting. If so, is there any way to fix it?

The basics: "The five Wi-Fi technologies are A, B, G, N and AC. B and G use the 2.4 GHz frequency; A and AC use the 5 GHz frequency; and N uses both 2..4 and 5 GHz frequencies. Your choice for your home or business will come down to three: Wireless G, N or AC." The A and B protocols are old and not used much anymore.

So you could attack it by finding out what the fiber box supports, and making sure the laptop is trying to connect using a supported protocol. Or back into it, looking at what your cell phones and Win7 pcs are using, and set the laptop WiFi settings for the same. With the older W7 machines, it's likely only 2.4Ghz. 5Ghz came later, and a new laptop probably has both. Oh, and the fiber router may have both, but the company could have one disabled just to ease support issues. Stranger things have happened.

Good luck. This stuff can be frustrating. And it's difficult to troubleshoot over the phone, much less over a couple of messages on a newsgroup.

Thanks Wayne!

If it's just seemingly running slower than it used to, upgrading to 11 won't fix that. It's all the junk that accumulates over time that slows it down. The upgrade keeps that junk.

Thanks. I'm happy with it now, so will leave it alone.
