Hi,

I have from a Toshiba scanner...

an Enhanced CT series with 3 files.

They share, naturally, the same study ID and the same series UID....

They have the same image data (3D) in each file - image position patient vector is the same for each file....

The only thing that distinguishes them is the 0020 0013 Instance Number

So, how to deal with? Is Enhanced CT always in a single file for each volume?

Does (0018,9302) Sequence type describe how this study was done? i.e. multiple scans of the same volume?

Thanks,

Rick

Rick -

Try checking 0008,0016 SOPClassUID.

https://dicom.innolitics.com/ciods/ct-image/sop-common/00080016

CTImageStorage = "1.2.840.10008.5.1.4.1.1.2"
EnhancedCTImageStorage = "1.2.840.10008.5.1.4.1.1.2.1"

FYI - 0008,0060 Modality will probably be "CT" in both cases.

If a single CT series contains three volumes, it might be CT angiography where they're tracking the contrast bolus at three different points in time. If this is the case, there is a chance that the protocol included (0018,9344) Contrast/BolusAgentPhase with values like PRE_CONTRAST, ARTERIAL, CAPILLARY, VENOUS etc.

Timing information might be available in (0008,002A) AcquisitionDateTime or, if that isn't present, from (0008,0033) ContentTime. Your best bet might to be search for the manufacturer's conformance statement.

An enhanced file will usually contains a single volume, but there can also be multiple volumes in a single enhanced file (rarely), or a single volume split across multiple enhanced files (very rarely).

Regarding (0018,9302) AcquisitionType, it will probably just be SPIRAL or SEQUENCED to indicate whether it was a helical acquisition or not. This is not related to whether multiple volumes are present.
