1) I'm not in London but outside---just a tad further east from the big
city than you are in distance from your nearest really big city - NYC of
course

2) My taxi wasn't a London cab but was registered with the local authority
where I live. I am now retired anyway so no longer hold any kind of taxi
badge or licence

3) The London taxis are on a loser here I think.

I've read up on this and I don't see what the massively popular Uber has
done wrong in law

Uber is accused of breaking London's taxi booking rules and
deliberately misleading authorities to secure a licence in 2012.

Cabbies allege that Uber allowed drivers to take bookings directly
from customers rather than through a centralized system such as those
used by minicab services, in a direct breach of private hire rules.

Uber has simply denied the allegations and says the claim is unfounded
- is this a vague and weak response from Uber or what?

(Hundreds of black-cab drivers have signed up to drive for Uber since
November, when it launched its latest effort to add traditional London
taxis to its transport app. This service went live for a limited
number of Uber customers in April.)
