At least one US Marshal is dead and �numerous� other law enforcement
officials have been wounded after gunfire erupted Monday in a suburban
neighborhood outside of Charlotte, North Carolina, according to reports.

The shooting broke out just before 2 p.m. when the US Marshals Task Force
was working an investigation in the area and one of the subjects opened
fire on them, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department
(CMPD).

�Multiple� officers were hit and taken to the hospital in unknown
conditions, CMPD said.

The reported deceased was a deputy US Marshal, according to WSOC-TV, but
officials have not yet confirmed the death.

One suspect was found dead after police breached the home where they
barricaded themselves, while two others have been detained and are being
questioned, according to CMPD.

At least two officers were shot in the legs, while another was shot in the
chest, the outlet reported.

SWAT teams from the department were dispatched to the scene, cops said,
while numerous roads in the area were closed to allow law enforcement
vehicles in and out.

Most have been opened since the standoff ended.

No further details were available about the US Marshals investigation, but
the force is typically tasked with apprehending federal fugitives.
