Firstly, what does 1.FFC and 71 e.V. mean?

Secondly, we're doomed! :-( We lost 5-1 at home against Bayer Leverkusen at the weekend, and are certain to get relegated. :-(

I think this might even be worse than Independiente getting relegated in 2013. At least with Independiente it was the first time ever, and there was a feeling of "Well it had to happen eventually", and there was a good chance of winning promotion very soon. Turbine Potsdam could take years to come back up couldn't they?

Does anyone know anything about this partnership with Hertha Berlin? Maybe that will help?

But it is "first" [erste] (also found in the name of teams like Köln,
Kaiserslautern) Frauenfussballclub (women's football club) - 71 is
the year of founding (like Schalke 04, Hannover 96 and so on), and e.
V. means eingetragener Verein (registered association)

There is none. It was dissolved last November as Hertha's board decided to pursue the
creation of a women's team of their own, and currently Hertha have other problems anyway.

It very much looks like the days of unaffiliated, 'pure' women's clubs are over.
With Turbine's demise, SGS Essen are the only one left in the German Bundesliga.
Same in Europe, FC Rosengård are currently UEFA's highest-ranked unaffiliated
club, and they've seen much better days.
Of previous Women's CL finalists and trailblazers - Umeå, FCR Duisburg, Tyresö,
all gone. FFC Frankfurt avoided that fate by affiliating themselves with Eintracht.

Any idea who the nearest big German football club is to Potsdam? Who should we affiliate with?

As Potsdam is basically a suburb of Berlin, the big Berlin clubs Hertha and Union would be
the number one candidates, but Union already have their own women's team (and are geographically
quite removed from Potsdam, at the other end of the city), and as written above Hertha don't
want to get involved anymore.

I have read about a new ambitious women's football project in Berlin with roots in Viktoria 1889,
but it appears that they want to do their own thing, too.

Why first? We're the only FFC Turbine Potsdam aren't we? Everybody knows we're not the 3rd one. It seems rather redundant.

It's mostly a bit of grandstanding, and almost exclusively a German thing.
The majority of 1.FC's (Köln, Kaiserslautern, Saarbrücken, Magdeburg, Union
Berlin,...) actually came onto the scene rather late, and often as a result of fusions
(Köln in 1948, Kaiserslautern in 1931, Saarbrücken in 1945, Magdeburg in 1965,
Union in 1966).

So to call yourself "1.FC" might be something like a claim to seniority that's
otherwise unfounded. Perhaps it happened on the model of 1. FC Nürnberg,
which is a genuinely old club that has always been named that way.

Turbine have called themselves 1.FFC only since 1999, likely following the
example of 1. FFC Frankfurt.
