If you didnt know it, the bigge$$$t match in football is not the WC final or Copa Libertadoes or Gold Cup or Champions liga, it is the promotion to the WWEpl final play off game, I think I read it is worth about 200 mil.

Coventry v Luton
We have done a lot of research on this game and our komputer has come up with Coventry winning, this is based on the science behind Coventry wearing the same colour kit as Manchester City.

I have actually been to Luton, it is to London what, lets say Oshawa is to Toronto or New Jersey is to New York. Or if you dont know Kanadian or USA cities and geography, it is what Coors light is to Lowenbrau.

A good example of how money has ruined football, especially in Europe!

Why are TV companies so (relatively) uninterested in proper tournaments like the Copa Libertadores or even the Argentinian League?! It doesn't make sense!

It actually makes a lot of sense. You're just asking the wrong question. TV companies don't air leagues/competitions based on personal interests or any sense of egalitarianism. They are businesses and they pick games based on expected ratings, which in turn are determined by how many people are interested in watching which leagues.

So the more appropriate question to ask is, why aren't more people outside South America interested in watching their leagues? The answer is simple - they are just not that good, because all their best players play in Europe.

Want a more objective measure? Try 538's SPI rating. Argentina's top rated club, River Plate, gets a SPI score of 58.8. Juxtapose that against your favorite league EPL, and that would put them third from the bottom in the EPL (i.e. relegation fodder). Many of the rest of the Argentinian top flight would struggle to even survive the English second tier, based on their SPI.

They are just not good enough to generate international interest.

What's SPI? I've never looked at 538; is that a web-site?

I still don't understand why 2 teams that have never won anything playing each other in a European League would generate more interest than Sao Paulo v Santos in the Brazilian League, even if Sao Paulo and Santos haven't got very good teams at the moment. Why would fans be more interested in individual players than successful football clubs?

https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/soccer-predictions/

Here is the SPI method: https://fivethirtyeight.com/methodology/how-our-club-soccer-predictions-work/

There are others like Opta rankings: https://theanalyst.com/na/2023/04/who-are-the-best-football-team-in-the-world-opta-power-rankings/

The highest ranked South American team there is Palmeiras, ranked 68 in the world. River Plate is ranked 127.
