It starts today. I'm going for Morocco, based mainly on their run to the World Cup semi-final in 2022.

I think they're actually the highest ranked team in the FIFA world rankings, so that's possibly evidence that I'm right.

What is going on is that it is starting today. Host is Cote d Ivoire or
Ivory Coast for you Anglo's.

Morocco is favourite, but the hosts or Senegal or numerous other
countries could win. I always find AFCON's low scoring affairs, I dont
think they have had a higher score than 1-0 in an AFCON.

I am gonna say Guniea will be the "shock" winner.

This will be broadcast on Sky Sports, which these days I stream via their NOW TV service, so I'll try to watch as many of these games as my work schedule will allow. It was a fun covering the last AFCON on rss.

Let's start a dedicated [R] thread for this tournament!

Unsophisticated predictions:

Group A:
Cote d'Ivoire
Nigeria
Equatorial Guinea
Guinea Bissau

Should be an easy one for the hosts and powerhouse Nigeria

Group B:
Egypt
Ghana
Cape Verde
Mozambique

Hmmm... Ghana and Cape Verde. Salah will be back in our FPL teams.

Group C:
Senegal
Cameroon
Guinea
Gambia

Senegal and Cameroon

Group D:
Algeria
Burkina Faso
Mauritania
Angola

Looks a lot weaker than some of the other groups: Algeria and Burkina Faso

Group E:
Tunisia
Mali
South Africa
Namibia

Another weakish group: Tunisia and South Africa

Group F:
Morocco
Dr Congo
Zambia
Tanzania

Morocco and DRC

Yay! 2 of 2

That's 8 of 12 top-2 place finishers. Maybe it was better if I didn't check my predictions.
