Ivory Coast win the 2023(4) Africa Cup of Nations!

The moral of this story is: if you want to win a tournament, lose two of your three group games (including a 4-0 defeat to Equatorial Ginea).

This is quite the comeback story on several levels. In the game, because
Nigeria scored first; in the tournament, because Ivory Coast was this
close of going out early; and, personally, for Sebastién Haller, who
just about one year ago overcame a malignant cancer, having undergone
surgeries and chemoterapy to beat the disease. Now he's here scoring a
continental title winning goal in front of his home crowd.

They should be about finishing in the top 2 in the group stage and then peaking in the Final or whenever though. Or if it's about finishing in the top 3 it should be the same for everyone. Why should Ivory Coast go through after only ending 3rd, when Ghana and Zambia ended 3rd too, if Ghana and Zambia had to play stronger opposition?

Last Euro hosts to win was France in 1984. That's 40 years ago, or
closer to WWII than to the present day.
