ESPNFC posted this ranking of American players. Don 't know how much it
is really worth, and can't say I have seen all that much of most of the
players this season (exceptions being Robinson of Fulham, and Pulisic).

https://www.espn.com/soccer/insider/story/_/id/39654772/usmnt-player-performance-index-ranking-top-50-americans

I think a lot of MLS players did not get considered because they have
not been active ?

But it got me thinking about a similar ranking of Canadian players
(although mine is algorithm free, and the realization that these days,
the gap in talent level between Canada and the US might be smaller than
it has been for 30 or more years - at least at the top end.

Here is my rough ranking of players who are, or might expect to be,
regulars for the national team:

1. Alphonso Davies. Not his best year and some injuries, and he has his
flaws, but still makes thing happen on the pitch.

2. Jonathan David - poor start in terms of goals, but he is now scoring
regularly and doing well. Rumoured to be sought as a replacement for
Osimhen at Napoli.

3. Stephen Eustaquio. Still getting lots of game time for POrto, and
playing in the CL.

4. Cyle Larin. Lots of game time for Mallorca, and has progressed to
the Cup final with them. Not scoring as frequently as he should, but
starts nearly every game.

5. Alistair Johnston. A fixture in Celtic's back line. Looks good when
I have seen him.

6. Ismael Koné. Still very young but doing fine with Watford. Lots of
game time.

7. Tajon Buchanan. Was doing fine with Bruges, but the move to Inter
might end up being disastrous for him. Not much time on the field since
then, and some pretty good players in front of him (like Dumfries) for
the position he normally plays.

8. Theo Bair. Thriving and scoring regularly for Motherwell. Has never
had much of a look in for the national team, but seems to have earned a
look with recent exploits.

9. Kamal Miller. has been reliable at centre back ever since he broke
through into the team. Just moved from Inter Miami, though, so waiting
to see how he does with Portland.

10. David Hoilett - just moved to Aberdeen and already playing. Getting
long in the tooth though.

11. Jonathan Osorio. Versatile and skilled. Now a DP with TFC,

12. Dayne St. Clair. Solid GK and high time he became the regular,
Borjan being well past it.

13. Derek Cornelius. Was a regular and championship winner with Malmö.
New season not started.

14. Maxime Crepeau. Solid alterative in goal.

15. Harrison Paton. A regular fixture in the Motherwell midfield.

16. Victor Loturi . Still very young, and getting lots of playing time
with Ross County.

17. Richie Laryea. Back with TFC, and always an agitator and offensive
threat.

18. Liam Millar. Doing fine with Preston, and still only 24.

19. Jacob Schaffelburg. Nashville. Got lots of playing time last year.

20. Theo Corbeanu. May not deserve to be here, but now with Granada and
scored a great goal recently. Still young, much younger than I thought,
given he has been on the scene for a while.

20+. Ali Ahmed and Mohammed Farsi.

Not considered: Borjan (a liability), Vitoria (has been a stalwart but
age has caught up to him, and has played very little for CD Chaves),
Cavallini (back in Mexico, now with Puebla - I think he is probably done
for the national team. Too lumbering and clumsy.

I think you need to read my full post a bit more carefully, Doc.

About twenty years on from the original bet, Canada getting close to
LacZee/Zed territory, too?
Or have they already reached it in past seasons, I haven’t checked.
