It's also desperate stirring of the pot by Bernie so that he's not
completely forgotten. He drops this very controversial comment and now
says he can't even remember the interview. Massa relying on Bernie would
be tricky at the best of times, using him as the main plank of his case - a
man at the age of 92 who is now backtracking - is just mad.

If you look at how the FIA has dealt with cases where teams or
individuals are found to have cheated, you don't find them cancelling
the whole event/series of events. For example, Schumacher in 1997 or
McLaren in 2007 - in neither case was the solution to invalidate the
results of everyone, but rather to solely punish those found to be at
fault/benefited.

If Singapore was, therefore, to be treated similarly, you might expect
(at worst*) that Alonso would lose his points as he clearly benefited.
If that happened - and I'm not the only one to point this out - the
others would shift up a place and Hamilton would actually *gain* two
points. Far from giving Massa his desired outcome, the WDC would be even
more clearly Hamilton's.

* Not clear that even that would be reasonable without a finding that
Alonso was somehow involved.

This is a non-story and I'm surprised that Massa has allowed himself to
be taken in by a ridiculous ruse that could never benefit him. He looks
like a desperate loser who can't let go of things not quite going his
way. Compare that to Moss supporting Hawthorn which ultimately led to
him missing out on his best opportunity for a WDC - and never
complaining about it.

Finally, if this strange combination of decisions that could lead to
Massa getting a WDC were allowed, imagine how many other decisions would
start being litigated? If you can change the title 15 years after the
event, no result would ever be "final".
