Unfortunately it's as a replacement for Dan Ricciardo who broke his hand in FP2. Liam's not going
to get much practice now for the race, it's really going to be a test of how well he 'step's up'!

As the Italian GP is next weekend there's a strong chance that Liam will be racing there too.
Personally I'd have preferred his GP debut to have been at the start of a season (with all the prep
that entails) but I guess this is better than nothing.

Does he at least have some experience at either (or both) of Zandvoort
or Monza? There's not a lot of preseason prep available for F1 rookies
these days and the early schedule is heavy with tracks that don't run F2.

Liam raced at Zandvoort in F2 in 2022 and at Monza in both 2021 and 2022 so that's in his favour.

The bad thing is his only practice session (P3) before this race is wet. :-/

.... and now the session has been stopped for a Magnussen spin in turn 3. I hope Liam gets some
running at least. He's always been good when the grip is marginal.

Yeah I think so too.

It would have been good to see him have his first F1 race fully prepared (and extend his record of
winning 8 times on debut in new series) but he didn't do too badly all things considered.

I'm still trying to find out what happened to Yuki on the last lap. I hope Liam didn't punt him off.

I've been looking forward to seeing Liam in F1 ever since I watched him race in and win the 2019 NZ
Toyota Racing Series at the age of 17. I must admit I didn't think he'd get helicoptered in for an
injured driver though and have been a bit apprehensive for him, coming in unprepared as he did.

Hopefully he makes a good fist of Monza (if he races there) and acquits himself well.

Thanks Mark. I checked the motorsport sites and found it after posting.

The Sky commentary team didn't explain Lawson's earlier 10 second penalty for a 'pitstop
infringement'. Turns out that the team double-stacked their drivers and Yuki's stop was slow which
left Liam waiting, blocking the Haas pitbox.

Bummer for Dan. I hope that he's fit for Mexico at least (29th October). That will leave Liam free
to complete his Super Formula season that weekend. (He's second in the standings with a reasonable
chance of winning the championship.)

If Dan's not fit by then maybe Nyck can drive Mexico?
