Tim McCarver, the All-Star catcher and Hall of Fame broadcaster who
during 60 years in baseball won two World Series titles with the St.
Louis Cardinals and had a long run as the one of the country’s most
recognized, incisive and talkative television commentators, died
Thursday. He was 81 years old.

McCarver’s death was announced by baseball’s Hall of Fame, which said he
died Thursday morning in Memphis, Tenn., where he was with his family.

He was great with the Mets...got a little stale by the late 90's, but nicely predicted Gonzales' hit to win the WS off Mo.

I'm grateful to have been able to listen to the careers of sports
commentators Tim McCarver and John Madden in my lifetime. He will be missed.

Sad to hear. He was one of the diminishing number of baseball people that still dated back to my earliest memories of following baseball, as catcher for those Cardinal teams of the 60's. I really enjoyed him while he was in the Mets broadcast booth. He and Kiner were great together. Not just on the games they were calling, but all those stories too. RIP
