The first player to ever play for the New York Mets has passed away.

Hobie Landrith, who played catcher for the Mets, has died at the age of 93.

Another thing about Hobie Landrith is that after 23 games and 54 PA with the Mets in 1962, he was traded that season to Baltimore for......Marv Throneberry, who turned about to be one of the most symbolic players of those early and inept New York Mets. Of course there's lots of Marv Throneberry stories, but one of the better ones was that after hitting what appeared to be a triple, he was then called out for missing 2nd base on an appeal play. When Casey Stengel came out to argue about that, his first base coach stopped him on his way and told him not to bother, he missed first base too.
