One thing that should be aparent this early into the season is that it
is not as easy to buy your way into a World Series as it seems. Despite
all efforts, this team will basically go as far an Alverez, Baty, McGill
and Petersen can carry them.

I think you could say that for most successful teams. The stars will
only carry the team so far, the rest is up to the 'supporting cast'.
Alverez and Baty are doing okay, Megill and Peterson not so much.
(Peterson got sent down to AAA).

It is not just an issue of stars verus support players. You need a
steady flow of star players coming from the minors, that is young, to
win. In fact, it is more essential for the supply of young players of
star caliber to win than the stockpile of established players.

Look at any of the teams that win and they all have a steady diet of
star players from their farm systems.

You're right. Teams like the Twins, Cards, Braves, A's always seem to
contend even after losing their top players to free agency.
