Areport from the New York Times reveals Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones
gifted a pretty significant item to a supreme court justice.

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas has been in the news lately after
a few controversial rulings. Now, he is back in it again but with an NFL
connection.

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and Clarence Thomas are good friends to
the point that the billionaire gifted Thomas a Super Bowl ring, reports
NBC Sports� Mike Florio.

�Thomas recently has been at the center of a controversy regarding the
propriety of Supreme Court justices receiving gifts and services from
wealthy private citizens. The concern is that, even when the person
providing gifts and services doesn�t have an active case before the
Supreme Court, the precedents created by the Supreme Court can benefit
wealthy private citizens by creating a law that is favorable to their
wealth and the interests of their businesses that create it. Apparently,
the rules are loose and rarely applied in situations like this, resulting
in Thomas getting plenty of stuff from wealthy private citizens, without
disclosure and/or scrutiny.�

The Supreme Court recently ruled Affirmative Action to be
unconstitutional, an argument that Clarence Thomas has championed for a
long time. That ruling could possibly lead to the end of the Rooney Rule,
a regulation that mandates teams to interview at least one external
minority candidate for any GM or head coach opening.

Even if it didn�t, teams have found ways around it for years so it�s not
like it has actually stopped franchises from hiring exactly who they want
to since its inception.

As for Jones, he is hoping to update his Super Bowl ring collection by
having his team make it further in the playoffs for the first time since
the mid-90s. The Cowboys haven�t sniffed the NFC Championship game nor the
Super Bowl since their hey-days in the 90s.

The team seems stacked enough to do it, but they usually fall when in the
playoffs when it matters.
