Well, there we go. An answer on that question.

Knew he wouldn't be back, but wondered where he'd end up.

What a crazy year for productive FA RBs. Some teams with a good one have
signed a FA, and presumably will cut their current one. My list of next
to watch is Aaron Jones and Joe Mixon. I know I'm crazy, but I'd happily
swap out any of the big contracts if they are available on the cheapish.

Tom Pelissero @TomPelissero

The #Bengals are releasing RB Joe Mixon, sources tell me and @MikeGarafolo.

Mixon is coming off his fourth 1,000-yard season. Now he becomes a free
agent at age 27.

And Aaron Jones also already released, I didn't realize that. Yes, quite
a game of musical chairs for RBs.

Ian Rapoport
@RapSheet
Plot twist: The #Bengals are now trading Joe Mixon to the #Texans,
rather than releasing him, sources say.

So Zack Moss signs in Cincy, Mixon is traded to Houston. From Joe Burrow
to CJ Stroud.

I don't understand, unless this is a trade that will go through after
the new league year starts. A FAQ from the NFL confirms that trades
can't be made until then:

https://www.nfl.com/news/nfl-trade-deadline-information-faq

"NFL teams can resume trading [after the 2023 trade deadline] when the
new league year begins (4 p.m. ET on March 13, 2024), which is the same
day teams are allowed to sign players who became free agents that year."

I guess it's like all the FA signings that have been announced, teams
are allowed to discuss and agree to terms, but can't actually complete
the trade until the new league year starts. The thing I'm interested to
understand is the salary cap implications, since a lot of teams -
especially the Chargers - are trying to trade players before being
forced to release them, I guess if both teams notify the league they've
agreed to a trade they can clear that off their books?

One Chargers fan account posted a story from the Boston Herald that the
Pats have had contact with the Chargers about the big four (Allen, Bosa,
Mack, and Williams). There's speculation that their top FA WR target
(Calvin Ridley) is leaning towards re-signing with the Jags.

Michael, I don't think that works. I think teams have to be actually
below the cap at 4 pm ET tomorrow. But they can agree, as you suggest,
to make a trade tomorrow after 4 pm ET/1 pm PT. And then sign a free
agent with the cap room created by the trade.
