It would be very stupid for Toyota to leave the EV market. I think they can’t even affort to wait for the better battery technologie whatever that will be. They now have one model iirc. My neighbour across the street works at a Toyota dealer and brings home that EV from time to time. Nice car but the reviews are not that good compared to the competition, hence the catch up they intend to do.

They have announced that they intend to maintain production of hybrids but cancel their EV program. I am not sure how they can use water to generate hydrogen and oxygen which seems to be a net loss of power but it has already been done in the US. So there must be some cheap way of splitting water.

Got a link to the announcement of original press release?

Wrong, as usual. It doesn't work by splitting water into hydrogen and
oxygen (electrolysis). It works by pumping hydrogen gas (at 10,000
PSI) and air into a fuel cell to generate electricity which powers an
electric motor.

"The Unfortunate Truth About Toyota's Hydrogen V8 Engine"
<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJjKwSF9gT8>
"Toyota partnered with Yamaha to develop a hydrogen powered V8 engine,
derived from the 5.0L V8 used on the Lexus RC F. The engine produces
450 horsepower by burning hydrogen, and thus has no direct carbon
emissions. Unfortunately, there's a big problem with hydrogen
combustion vehicles, as this video will demonstrate."

This video is more recent (Aug 11, 2023). Toyota is trying liquid
hydrogen:

Ive read several articles stating that Toyota are planning to release
ten new battery EVs by the end of this decade, apparently planning on 6
new models for europe by the end of 2025. They are (finally) releasing a
model in the US for 2025, but only a mid-sized SUV.

Toyota is the most prodigal automaker ever with respect to electric cars.

They literally stuck their head in the sand for the last 10 years mumbling "hydrogen", and yesterday all the SHELL hydrogen stations in California, CLOSED (yeah, all 7 of them!) Thank god I don't own a Toyota Mirai, I'm not that stupid, Toyota!

Frankly, Toyotas are overrated. We have a Lexus Rx300. The car that made Lexus #1 in luxury cars. After 10Y, the doors don't unlock, the windows don't go down. After 20Y, the battery starts draining and i had to buy a special kill switch otherwise the battery dies overnight. The computer just refuses to switch off and it drains the battery. I once decided to replace the rear electric radio antenna. I had to remove FORTY (i kid you not ... FORTY) bolts and disassemble the entire trunk area to get to it! Terrible design, they assume nothing ever breaks so when things finally start to break, it's unmaintainable ...

Try mid-1960s GM products. Works for me.
