These external SSD things are short term storage in any case. Without
power they tend to lose the data after a longer time (a year or so).
HDDs do not have this problem.

Probably shouldn't tempt the reliability gods here, but I have never had
a failure with Seagate drives and a current 8 disk set of 6TB external
drives in drive caddies has been running for about 4 years w/o issue.

Will be replacing them in about a year or so to increase capacity.
