It was a good site in its salad years. Turned into a advertising
platform at some point. I probably still have an account - but haven't
logged in in ... 15 years? Who knows.

Indeed I haven't got my login creds anymore. Maybe I "de-registered"?

i haven't used the forums in a while either.

what's sad is that there's a *huge* amount of useful information there,
including the forums, the articles and many extremely thorough reviews.

'limited time' sounds like it could be gone by next year, if not sooner.

hopefully they get enough feedback to realize how important it is to
keep around, but without it generating revenue, that might not matter.

My guess is that Amazon must have calculated that the cost of
maintaining that site was not worth it.

The thing is that operating these sites is not free and requires effort.

It's one thing if such sites are run by a group of enthusiasts, but if
it's salaried employees the site must be profitable.

they've said as much.

archiving the content and keeping it available is indeed not free, but
it does not require much effort to maintain, especially for amazon.
