The fundamental theorem of calculus says that IF f is a smooth function, THEN

f(x+h)-f(x)=h[f'(x)+Q(x,h)]

where f'(x) is the arithmetic mean (better phrase is 'level magnitude' and has nothing to do with bullshit of "real number") of all the slopes of f in (x, x+h) and Q(x,h) the difference in slope between f'(x) and the non-parallel secant line slope (f(x+h)-f(x))/h.

f is smooth, if and only if, it is possible to construct no more than ONE tangent line at every point in (x,x+h) excluding inflection points.

A line t is called a tangent line if t meets f in ONE point, extends to both sides of the point and NEVER crosses at the point of tangency.
