Have any Canadians on here ever had to apply for a special c of a - limited for a glider they brought in that didnt have a type cert in canada? I'm reading through all the transport canada info I can find (car 507.10), and have contacted my local transport canada regional office but havent heard back.

ive seen it a few times previously. ie ls-4 and ls-6's have a type cert in canada but ls3's dont seem to and a few have been brought in under the special c of a - limited designation.

in this case its for a jantar szd-48-3 ... there are plenty of jantar szd-48-1 in canada but no 3's so I think I'd have to bring it in this way so am trying to do as much research as I can.

I'm hoping getting an export c of a done in the states by the faa will make this process smoother.

ultimately it seems like I may need to hear back from transport canada but its been challenging to get in touch with them through emails or phone calls so figured I'd ask if anyone here has gone this route (I'm on the west coast , but will take hints or tips from anyone who's attempted this)

Thanks

Dan

The Export CofA is likely to be ignored by Transport Canada.

There's a dedicated TC airworthiness office in Montreal that I exchanged emails with over a decade ago, but I no longer have their email.

If it is a US registered aircraft it would be wise to get the history file from the FAA. It costs $5. It should have the Export Certificate of Airworthiness from the country of origin which may be quite helpful when dealing with Transport Canada. A gentleman that helped me with TC told me their motto nis "If a small aircraft flies in Canada, we've failed".
