Nice article. I wished somehow this bird would be restored to flying condition rather than going on display in a museum.

In all seriousness. I think the Ree Brothers built a stock Cherokee II (Tony Condon has it now), one with a longer, higher aspect ratio, laminar flow wing, known as a Cherokee RM (now owned by James Shafer), a Tern (registration expired. Lasted registered to Ree Brothers), then the Pioneer II.

The Ree Brothers built their gliders in the attic above their (electronics I think) shop in Philadelphia. I have an almost exact photo of my Cherokee being lowered to the street as the one of the Pioneer in this article!

The Tern is no more. See the "Tern of a Screw" article in Soaring. or is is "Screw of a Tern"? Either way one of the brothers bailed out after getting into a spin in it.

Screw of a Tern. December 1970, SOARING Magazine, page 16. It was a nice looking example of the Tern, too.

A quick Google turned up this interesting tidbit. Look about halfway down the article. There's a picture of Ree Electronics.

I vaguely remember hearing about the Ree brothers from a PGC (Philadelphia Glider Council) old-timer in the mid to late 1980s when I was first learning to fly. Their shop was not far from where my wife grew up in Northeast Philly, and there was some other connection that I can't remember.
