Google Groups ending support for Usenet
If you work with Usenet groups in Google Groups, support for these
groups is ending soon.

https://support.google.com/groups/answer/11036538?visit_id=638382121371600439-1361429638&p=usenet&rd=1

Looks like the spammers will have to ply their trade elsewhere!

You might want to try eternal-september.org and the oldest Free Agent
you can find. Or Pan if you are a Linux user.

I think tumbleweed will be your only friend; why not setup a proper
usenet client on a proper server while there are still folk around who
can help you?

If you insist on a web interface, there are alternatives, such as

I am in the same USENET-Deja-Googegroups-oblivion boat as you but I dont see it that way at all? Just because google says we should no longer use a platform that they aren't making money out of DOES NOT to me say that I can no longer use USENET.

It does mean that I have to install Thunderbird and look around for a service that lets me use USENET.

Why would you want to let google dominate your life on this issue, - when you know USENET is a service you like??

Has google proposed some compelling alternative to you that I don't know about?

And for me, that smacks of too much effort for what I get back. When I could just click a bookmark to get usenet, it was worth the effort. Usenet is a shallow reflection of what it used to be. If usenet was as it was say 15 years ago, I might be motivated to figure out a solution.

Google isn't dominating my life. When they offered free and easy usenet access, I used it. When it's gone, it's gone. Frankly, I'm surprised they kept offering it as long as they did.

Usenet with Thunderbird or any other such program is so much easier to
use than google groups.

Just like accessing email. I'd hate to have to access a different web
page for every email account I have.

They are all available instantly through Thunderbird when properly set
up with clear indications of new messages or email.
