Considering the vastness of space, even if the likelyhood of
intelligent species with radio transmission capability is very small,
then there is still likely to be many such transmsiions.

We're a good example.

Yet, apparently nothing.

Why ? !

Because local/terrestrial radio signals are not beamed into space. You
could not pick up an Earth radio station on the moon, let alone millions of
light years away.

And even if we could receive such signals, how would we decode it? Are we
assuming everyone uses AM and FM? Then there is digital. What is the
bit rate? Are there 8 bits to a byte? What is the signal carrying?
Audio? Video? A copy of The Encyclopedia of Andromeda?

Try taking an mp3 file and decoding it as a jpg picture. Try using an
Excel file as a text file.

Now imagine trying to receive an unknown signal on an unknown frequency,
using unknown encoding formats.
