Hello all.
I realize that this is a very old post, however much better than any type of glue or even solder is welding. Yes, welding pot metal is very possible - I do it on a daily basis. You see, I am a retired auto restorationist and delt with a lot of pot metal parts; mostly broken. That's one of the reasons they call it "DIE-cast" metal. As soon as it comes out the mold it starts to decay unless it's coated...
Long story short, I developed a way to weld pot metal and for the last 6 years I've been restoring old broken pot metal and spelter parts with a near 100% success rate. In 6 years, I've had only a handful of parts that couldn't be restored, and those 50% of them I made new identical parts.
Bottomline I've mastered the art of pot metal repair and restoration. If you would like to see some of my work, please visit me at: https://potmetal.repair
