The Dudamel business model works only in the US
and within 30 miles of Hollywood. I doubt it can
work in other locales where people go to concerts

On the other hand Mengelberg was appointed chief
honcho of the RCO at only 24, so one should not
attempt to generalize. "young" does not imply
incompetence, just as "mature" does not imply
competence. OMMV.

Interesting points.Maestro Makela and Ms.Wang are to play a concerto with the Chicago Symphony in Chicago in early April.That should be interesting ! Or,not.

Then again, nobody ever heard of Rene Kohler until he was a crippled old man and nearly dead. It's almost like he never existed before.
