*I should add that likely I would keep Fricsay's and/or Suitner's nozze if I did not have Östman's - generally there are some problems with Klemperer's nozze and cosi (singing and accompaniment) which prevent me from enjoying the recordings fully. So probably I would even rate Fricsay's and/or Suitner's nozze above Klemperer's; it's just that these have some really special moments that I like to listen to now and then, while I don't miss anything about Fricsay's or Suitner's nozze with Östman's in mind.

Shit...just relistened to bits of it; absolute rubbish - except for some of the phrasing by Fricsay. The singing is even more horrible than I remembered - it's really funny, how much I loved this recording once, and now I can't stand it -- Suitner's is also horrible wrt to the singing, and especially the accompaniment.

So even though I don't need Solti's and think his accompaniment is quite barbaric (well Fricsay's and Suitner's too in some ways), I would rate Solti's above Fricsay's and Suitner's - but Östman's is my favourite -- still think much can be done wrt to these operas... I have issues with every recording ;D

Sorry about the veryn late reply. I've had the Jones set for a long
time, and am generally fond of it. My favorite works are those of tbe
composer's middle period, especially Métopes and Masques. (I have other
recordings, but do not recall the comparisons well enough to say who
I might prefer.) I found the late Mazurkas harder to get into, and
Jones did not help much. A recording, recommended by a former poster
here, by Joanne Domanska made much more sense to me. I found I had to
listen to each work several times, and came to appreciate (but not
quite love) them. So Domanska is very good for the full set. Also,
don't miss Rubinstein's recordings of (unfortunately only) the first
four.

Have to correct myself here again: I prefer Fricsay's nozze to Solti's and Suitner's by far - I also don't mind the singing, forget what I said before, it's a very beautiful nozze - Fricsay is so good at phrasing. So alongside Östman's, it's my favourite.

No Klemperer in cosi and figaro - finally done with this..

Yeah.. It took me a while.. and I'm only done just now; screw Fricsay's nozze. The accompaniment sucks, the phrasing not really good... sorry, and many of the singers suck as well (Stader is truly horrible).
