Annoying for those of us who bought the Beethoven and Brahms sets.

Speaking of hilarity, Mr Norman Lebrecht reports that the Opening Gala of the Seattle Symphony was poorly attended, with only about 890 attendees in a hall built for 2,500. Right figure, wrong concert - this was the first concert of the subscription series, and not the Gala, which (a) hasn't been held yet and (b) is almost booked out. But one American commenter suggests another and more direct link between urban blight and the economics of the local Symphony, viz. that the streets around the Seattle concert hall itself may have become unpleasant to go through.

Perhaps, like Louis Jordan, they need to move way on the outskirts of town?

Bernstein's "Nimrod" was extracted from his concert performance and can also be seen on YouTube. It has attracted well over 300 comments under the video, ranging from "ridiculous" to "just glorious" and "definitely the best version ever" to "this is horrendous!" ... Is it just a case of "one man's meat is another man's poison"? ...

Welsh and Russian choral is akin, but similarities end with the emotional language used, Russian being melancholic whereas Welsh is more enigmatic to these ears. Russian also more modal and strong in the lower registers, whereas Welsh stronger in the alto register. Both capable of strong emotional feeling.

Yes, they have a modest handful of recordings so far, and all have
merits. I also feel as though it's a group that strives for more,
and is improving their ideas & command. (The most comparable group
is probably Blue Heron, pace another recent thread here, also from
Boston, and also doing some great work.)

And yes, the complete motets alone (i.e. from a consistent
perspective...) is something I've really wanted....

I would characterize it more as they've continued to develop. And
on the Josquin disc, they also delve more into pronunciation, and
those aspects of timbre, so it seems to be a very ambitious rethinking
overall.
